Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana: Discover the Magic of Water at EPCOT’s Newest Attraction

Walt Disney World’s EPCOT has long been celebrated for its unique blend of education and entertainment, a concept known as “edutainment.” The park’s latest addition, Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana, is a testament to this legacy, offering an enchanting experience that not only delights the senses but also imparts valuable lessons about one of our planet’s most vital resources: water.

Located in World Nature just behind Spaceship Earth and immediately adjacent to The Seas Pavilion, Journey of Water is one of the newest attractions at EPCOT.

An Immersive Walkthrough Experience

Nestled in EPCOT’s World Nature area, Journey of Water invites guests into a self-guided, walkthrough attraction that’s unlike anything else in the park. Inspired by the beloved Disney film “Moana,” this attraction allows visitors to step into a world where the ocean’s heartbeat resonates with their own.

As you embark on this adventure, you’ll follow the path water takes from the skies to the ocean depths and back again. The attraction is designed to be interactive, with water features that respond to your touch and presence, creating a playful environment where water comes alive, just as it does in the film.

A Tribute to the Natural World

The lush landscapes and artfully designed spaces are a tribute to the natural world’s beauty and complexity. Rock formations, inspired by the movie’s iconic characters and settings, guide you through the journey, while native plants and cascading waterfalls create a serene atmosphere that feels both otherworldly and familiar.

The attraction’s design is a reminder of the environments we must preserve and protect. Moana’s own story as a navigator and guardian of the ocean is woven throughout the experience, encouraging guests to consider their relationship with water and the environment.

Educational and Fun

One of the most remarkable aspects of Journey of Water is its educational value. The attraction is not merely a passive experience; it’s an opportunity to learn about the water cycle, conservation, and the ways in which every drop of water is connected to the rest of the world.

Interactive elements throughout the trail demonstrate water’s properties and behaviors, such as how it shapes our landscapes, supports life, and is an ever-present force in our daily lives. The experience is designed to be accessible for all ages, ensuring that everyone—from the youngest explorers to the most seasoned travelers—can take away new knowledge and appreciation for this essential element.

A New Kind of Disney Magic

Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana, is a significant addition to EPCOT’s lineup of attractions. It represents a new kind of Disney magic—one that’s rooted in real-world phenomena and geared toward inspiring action and awareness. The attraction’s opening on October 16, 2023, marked a new chapter for EPCOT, one that continues the park’s mission to celebrate the harmony of human achievement and the wonders of the natural world.
