The Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress is one of the best hotels located near the World Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida and the Endless Summer family enjoyed a weekend stay just recently in May 2022.  Conde’ Nast Traveler’s 2021 Reader’s Choice Awards ranked the Hyatt 9th for “Top Orlando Resorts”.

Located just outside of the Disney Springs area and adjacent to Hotel Plaza Boulevard, this 779-room resort was originally constructed in 1982 and was the area first Five-Star and Five-Diamond resort.  Guests enjoy views of Disney Springs as well as the evening fireworks spectaculars from EPCOT and the Magic Kingdom.

Amenities at the Hyatt include a 800,000 gallon resort pool that features a grotto (swim-through cave), 12 waterfalls, splash pad and a two-story water slide, a full-service tennis & racquet club, a beach & water sports along Lake Windsong, a 24-hour fitness center, the Marilyn Monroe Spa and access to a Jack Nicklaus designed golf course at the Grand Cypress Golf Club.  Additional amenities include complimentary transportation to Walt Disney World and the Universal Orlando Resort.

The Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress is located just outside of the Walt Disney World Resort near Disney Springs. Access to the hotel is fairly simple as there is an interchange at South Apopka Vineland Road from Interstate 4, less than five minutes to the hotel.  Additionally, the hotel is  fairly close to the Orlando /Orange County Convention Center and several of Orlando’s major shopping & entertainment destinations.

It will take travelers about 25 minutes to get to the hotel from the Orlando International Airport and less around 10 to 15 minutes to get to the Orlando / Orange County Convention Center.  

In addition to what is offered on-site, there are several restaurants and retail venues within a very short distance along Apopka Vineland Road and Palm Beach which include a Walgreens Pharmacy, Olive Garden and Chili’s Grill & Bar.  

Theme parks and other local destinations are short distance to the hotel.  Per Google Maps, travel time is as follows (non-peak hours):

Theme Park Transportation

Transportation via shuttle buses to Walt Disney World and the Universal Orlando Resort is included in the Resort Fee.  Following was the transportation schedule during the time of our last stay:

Resort-Style Swimming Pool

The 800,000-gallon lagoon pool at the Hyatt is one of the best hotel pools in the Orlando area.  There is a private swim-thru grotto, two-story water slide, children’s water play area, two hot tubs and 12 waterfalls.  There are a number of poolside activities including fish feeding, cornhole competitions and hula hoop contests –  “dive-in” movies are shown on a nightly basis.  The pool is open from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

Poolside cabanas that accommodate up to 6 guests are available starting from $300 per day.  Also available are premium umbrella pool chairs, grotto cabanas and premium grotto pool chairs.

Sandy Beach and Water Sports

One of the most unique amenities is the white sandy beach along the shores of Lake Windsong.  There is ample seating with lounge chairs, umbrellas and hammocks along with a vast array of water sports activities include:

  • Stand up paddle boarding
  • Kayaks and canoes
  • Paddleboats
  • Hydro bikes
  • Sailboat

Access to the water sports amenities is included in the resort fee and are available daily from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM.  Unfortunately swimming is not allowed in the lake but there is ample opportunities for guests to take advantage of the water with the watersports activities.

Golf and Tennis

Included in the resort fee is access to and eight-hole pitch ‘n’ putt golf course, five hole mini-golf course, rock climbing wall and the Grand Cypress Tennis & Racquet Club. The tennis and racquet club features 12 outdoor tennis courts, two outdoor racquetball courts, a volleyball court and a basketball court. Access to pitch ‘n’ putt, mini-golf and tennis club is included in the resort fee and is available daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Hotel guests also have access to the Grand Cypress Golf Club with is a Jack Nicklaus designed course that is inspired by the Old Course at St. Andrews, Scotland. This course will remain open until 2023 until the all new $1+ billion 1,100 acre Evermore Orlando Resort which will be developed by Dart Interests on the site of the former Villas of Grand Cypress.

Marilyn Monroe Spas

Marilyn Monroe Spas has a location directly on-site at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress.  This full service spa features a variety of treatments including massages, specialty massage therapies, aromatherapy, facials & skin therapy treatments, hand & foot therapies and salon services.

The spa is open from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM Thursday thru Monday.

Four Flamingos, A Richard Blais Florida Kitchen

Four Flamingos offers serves a variety of American cuisine including seafood specialties and fine steaks. Entrees include Lobster Bucanti, Swordfish Prime Rib, Bacon Rapped Filet and Surf & Turf.  The restaurant is only open for dinner service stating at 5:00 PM (reservations are recommended).

LakeHouse

Guests will dine in an causal but elegant environment overlooking Lake Windsong at the LakeHouse restaurant.  Dinner entrees include Rib Eye Steak, Braised Beef Short Ribs, Diver Scallops, Seared Norwegian Salmon and Spinach Artichoke Pasta.  The restaurant is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner service and also features take-out.

The Lake House has Happy Hour every day from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM with $4 domestic beers, $5 import beers, $5 wine by the glass and $10 specialty cocktails.

Outdoor poolside dining at its finest is available at On the Rocks Poolside Restaurant. Entrees including burgers, sandwiches, rice bowls and more along with a kids menu.  Open daily from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM on weekdays and until 8:00 PM on weekends.

The Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress features 102,000 square feet of flexible indoor event and meeting space along with 115,000 square feet of outdoor event space to accommodate groups of up to 1,000. 

Event space includes 57 meeting rooms, the 25,000 square foot Windsong Ballroom, the 25,000 +/- square foot Grand Cypress Ballroom and the lakeside Conference Center along the shores of Lake Windsong. In addition, the resort features five VIP Executive Boardrooms with outdoor patio space that has amazing views of the Walt Disney World Resort.

There is also the “Wilderness” which is a outdoor event venue themed after a small town from the old west.  There is an outdoor stage to go along with mockups of old west buildings.
