Flag Retreat Ceremony – Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World

One of the great traditions at Walt Disney World is Flag Retreat Ceremony which is held daily at the Magic Kingdom.  Each day, typically around 5:00 PM, the American flag that flies in Town Square at the base of Main Street U.S.A, is lowered in a “Salute the Spirit of America” ceremony.

Disney’s Security Team along with a special guest, which is a United States active duty military or Veteran, participate in the ceremony to lower the flag and walk in a procession up Main Street. The participant is selected at random and from what we have heard, are typically selected during the morning’s opening ceremony of the Magic Kingdom.

We presume that Disney selects the participant by looking for guests wearing military apparel like a shirt, hat or a military back pack.

Along with the lowering of the flag, guests are invited to join in to say the Pledge of Allegiance as well as sing “God Bless America” and the “Star Spangled Banner” along with the Dapper Dans Barber Shop Quartette & the Main Street Philharmonic Marching Band.
