According to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the state of Florida is home to over 175 state parks, trails and historic sites making it one of the largest park systems in the country. The state is a four-time winner of the “Gold Medal” award for the nation’s best park system.
Florida State Parks consist of approximately 800,000 acres and 100 miles of beaches that offer hiking & riding trails, swimming, fishing & dining along with a wide range of camping opportunities. There are also a number of exhibits, shows and events that provide it’s visitors insight to the states history and culture.
From one end to the other, the state of Florida is deceivingly large. Visitors will travel more than 800 miles if driving from Pensacola (in the western panhandle) to Key West (the end of the Florida Keys).
